This paper describes the new species Bohemiaecystis jefferiesi n. sp., a new Carpoid found in the lower Caradoc materials of eastern Sierra Morena in the neighbourhood of El Viso de El Marqués, in the province of Ciudad Real, SW Spain. This find represents the first representative of the Class Cornuta for the Iberian Ordovician and is especially important for the comprehension of the genus Bohemiaecystis, since to date this was described only from one specimen from the middle Ordovician of Bohemia. Thanks to this material, the phylogeny of the Scotiaecystidae may be properly established, since a clear link between Bohemiaecystis and Scotiaecystis is observed. Moreover it has filled a gap in the fossil record of the Cornuta during the Caradoc.
