A c1assification of fault analysis methods is made. Four groups have been established: Anderson's model, simple geometric-kinematic methods, Bott's equation-based methods and those based on Reches' mode!. The combined use of right dihedra, y-R diagram and Etchecopar's method is proposed, giving sorne practical criteria about the running of these methods. In order to guaratee the reliability of the results it is important to take into account sorne technical details in data collection. The stress tensors obtained from brittle microestructural analysis can be used to reconstruct tectonic palaeostress field.
