Microstonyx majar is described for the first time from the Nagri Formation type section. The species is compared to Hippopotamodon sivalense and Dicoryphochoerus titanoides. The latter species is found to be a junior synonym of M. major. Microstonyx and Hippopotamodon might also be synonymous but further research is needed to substantiate this hypothesis. The Indian and Eurasian suid faunas had many species and genera in common.
