The major sedimentological features of Río Turbio deposits that pertain lo the Austral Argentinian Basin are herein dealt with the sequence as established there consists of a marine environment (Cerro Dorotea Formation), giving way to a vastly fluctuating shoreline coastal deposits (Rio Turbio Formation), unconformably overlain by continental sediments (Cerro Mirador conglomerates and Rio Guillermo Formation). Environment wise local variation (foreshore, backshore, tidal channel, tidal plain, braided drainage...) fits a three megacycle pattern each one evolving through a complex succession of lesser cycles, which are but a reflection of minor transgressive-regressive phases.
