In this study we have analized the content of the different detrital quartz types (Basu et al., 1975) in recent sands derived from single source areas (granitic, gneissic and slate-schists lithologies) in the Sistema Central. Following the methodology of Basu et al (1975), for sand provenance interpretation, we have observed Ibat, in these deposits, the content of monocrystaline quartz types is not useful to discriminate plutonic and high rank metamorphic sources. However, we can confirm the validity of the policrystaline types content to distinguish sands of low rank metamorphic parentage.
