Abstract

26 selected samples of celestite minerals belonging to four strontium mineralizations in the eastern part of the Cordillera Bética (Murcia and Almena provinces) are studied by X-ray diffraction and chemical analysis. These samples show a continuous isomorphous series in the SrSO4-BaSO4 system only in the range 0-10% BaO, with a small increase in the cell lattice parameters a, b, e , and V. The orthorrombic cell dimensions were calculated by the least squares method. In this manner we have obtained the following equations by linear regression: a = 8.353 + 7.728.10-3x, b = 5.352 + 9.362. 10-4x, c = 6.871 + 1.316. 10-3x y V= 307.600 + 0.1997x, were x is the BaO tenor in percentaje.
