Abstract

The sedimentary environment of the Guadix-Baza Depression sediments, between Upper Miocene and Upper Pleistocene as stratigraphical age, is described. The paleogeographical reconstruction of the basin shows the Depression divided in different areas, the eastern and western conected by a central area. The marginal deposits and the central part ones are fluvial sediments (Grupo Guadix); they change towards the center of two areas in lacustrine sediments (Grupo Huélago in western area and Grupo Baza in eastern one), at the bottom of this last Group there are also marine sediments up to middle Pliocene, Vertebrate deposits and the influence of neotectonic in the Depression sedimentation in the time are described with more details. The next researchs, by an interdisciplinary group (in which the author works), for a best knowledge of the dinamic evolution of the Depression are planned.
