The presence of Hippopotamus antiquus and Equus stenonis granatensis nov. ssp. indicates for the Venta Micena locality an approximate age near the Lower-Middle Pleistocene boundary and very near that of the Sainzelles bed, dated 1.3 m. y. Ecologicaly this period representa, during the Pleistocene, one of the ages in whi.ch the lacustrine surface had the largest extension in the Baza basin (Guadix-Baza Depression).
