Abstract

A palinological study was carried out on 29 samples of the Pliocene from San Onofre (Tortosa, prov. of Tarragona, Spain) in which 88 forms were identified. The lower part of the stratigraphic column proved to be the most abundant, with an improverishment of the microflora towards its upper portion. Arboreal forms are seen to predominate over the non-arboreal ones, the former representing in some samples (20, 21) 100% of the vegetation. Interesting aspects were: Pinus type diploxylon is always better represented than Pinus typo haploxylon. The Taxodiaceae ((Taxodium and Sciadopitys) do not constitute more than 6% of the whole. A total absence of Artemisia was noted for all the levels. According to the foraminiferae, the section may be attributed to the zone of Globorotalia crassaformis.
