The lithoestratigraphic and detritical facies of paIeogene sucession of The Tertiary Tajo Basin are studied. Two lithoestratigrapbic units are distinguished: a carbonate unit and a detritical unit. The lithologies caracterizing both units are arranged in lithological facies associations.
The paleogene succesion shows lateral and vertical lithological variations which allow to distinguish three geographic sectors: Beleña de Sorbe, Torrenocha de Jadraque y Huérmeces del Cerro.
The carbonate unit in Beleña de Sorbe sector has a marly composition, while io Torremocha de Jadraque and Huérmeces del Cerro it has a calcareous composition and shows several lacustrine and palustrine facies. The sedimentation of the detritical unit in Beleña de Sorbe sector is principally clastic, and can be related in Torremocha de Jadraque and Huérmeces del Cerro sector with short lacustrine and palustrine events.
The facies associations of the carbonate unit are interpreted as related with lacustrine-palustrine depositional environments, and those of the detritical unit to alluvial-fan depositional environments.
