The characteristics of the current river channel of the Guadalquivir river and deposits of the terrace T4 ( + 6 m) near Andújar are described. The study of morphological parameters evidence that they are balanced; this indicates that morphology and channel pattern are contolled mainly by local causes. Changes in discharge and bedload are responsible for gradual variations of channel patterno In contrast, overflow causes sharp changes. A general displacement of the river course towards the S. and SW. was deduced from careful study of maps, air photographs, etc., corresponding to various dates. T4 ( + 6 m) terrace deposits exhibit 2 typical vertical sequences (called 1 and 2 respectively) of channel and flood-plain facies. A model of terrace growth is proposed which is domonated by point bar deposits.
