Abstract

The Stephanian deposits of the Rengos Basin are studied in this paper from a sedimenlological point of view. Five lithostratigraphic units are stablished. They are organised in four megasequences which have been attributed lo minar tectonic movements on the northern border. Most of the infilling of the basin was relaled lo longitudinal input of alluvial sediments along former fluvial val1eys. Lateral supply of sediment was developed. After analysing lateral and vertical variations of these material in the first megasequence a transition from proximal lo and distal facies was deduced. The existence of a threshold in the Riolorno zone has been deduced. From the previous data we conclude that these materials deposited in alluvial fans. A model of fan and its dynamic evolution is proposed.
