Abstract


The Sierra de Abdalajís-Huma sector is part of the Penibetic and its structure mainly corresponds to dextral strike-slip faults of approximate N70ºE direction. These faults are vertical or strongly dipping, with predominantly northward reverse component. There are also large anticlinal and synclinal folds. From the study of minor structures, a main compression of WNW-ESE direction that was progressively rotated to a NNW-SSE direction can be deduced. Folds limbs are commonly vertical, especially near the contact with the Internal Zone, which in this sector is a major vertical dextral fault. The structure of the area is related to the lateral oblique collision of the Internal Zone, then moving to the west. The movement between the two domains caused a relative eastward displacement of the Penibetic situated to the north of the Internal Zone. However the absolute displacement of both domains was to the west, although the northern part of the Penibetic did to a lesser degree.
